Shasta Wines

Intermountain Vineyard & Winery:  Situated on a five acre estate north east of Redding, the land is planted to not only wine grapes, but table grapes, blackberries, raspberry, figs and pears as well.  The wine grapes grown are primarily Viognier, Muscat, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Syrah.  The winery also makes award winning fruit wines from products they grow on the estate.  There is currently no tasting room at the winery site, but plans are for one to open in the next year.  Tours can be made by appointment.

The Matsons also own a second vineyard near the Shingletown area called Wisteria Vineyards where they have planted Viognier and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The winery currently offers a Bordeaux Blend, Shiraz, Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, White Wine Blend, Red Wine Blend and a Port.  Tasting is available by appointment at the winery.

Alpen Cellars VineyardTRINITY COUNTY REGION:  These are probably the most remote wineries of the bunch, and we had quite a challenge on our trip finding maps of the area that were up to date and easy to navigate.  This is a very ruggedly beautiful area and one we plan to revisit and spend a great deal more time investigating.

Alpen Cellars BridgeAlpen Cellars:  Located in a picturesque creek valley just east of Trinity Lake, this winery can be an adventure to find, but the beauty of the area is well worth the trip.  The location of the vineyards in the Trinity mountains not far from the lake allow the estate to grow grapes not often found in the other wine regions of the area; Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir.   They also purchase Pinot Gris and Merlot from another Trinity County grower.  The winery did very well at the recent California State Fair wine competition, as well as many other throughout the state and around the United States.  They make a fairly wide variety of wines including sweet and dry white wines, roses and different styles of red wines.  The winery has a tasting room at the estate that is open Memorial Day through Labor Day, 10:00 am to 4:00 pm.
