V. Sattui Continued .. The only negative we experienced was when we pulled into the parking lot the winery had young adults stopping every car and handing out pieces of paper. The papers stated that the picnic area was for customers who purchased food in the deli, no outside ice chests or food allowed. Although we can understand that the winery needs the tables for customers of the deli, it would have been a lot less offensive to have well placed signs. There didn’t seem to be a lot of effort put into the notes to make them customer friendly and even those in our group who are members of the wine club at Sattui felt it started the experience on a negative note and was a little offensive. We must say that other than that one issue the service was very good and we had a great time.
Domaine Chandon: You know a winery takes their visitor experience seriously when you pull in the drive and find out they have their own radio station that supplies information on the winery, what is going on, parking, etc. The winery is owned by Moet-Hennessy a partnership of Moet Chandon, one of the oldest Champagne houses in France, and French cognac producer Hennessy. The parking lot, grounds and tasting facility of Domaine Chandon is reminiscent of some of the visitor centers of the largest and most visited national parks, such as Yosemite or Yellowstone. The parking lot is multi leveled with busses, limos and cars everywhere. The grounds are truly spectacular and do look like a park with a ponds, fountains, large pedestrian bridges, massive lawns and extensive gardens. The visitor facility is built low to the ground and into the hill which belies its size.
