Continued...even if they lose their lunch on the way (it happens). After they make the top and start back down to the finish, they have family, friends, and just plain cycling fans on the roadside banging pans, screaming, blowing whistles; whatever they can do to pass congratulations to the riders on their success. Many of these folks sit on the side of the road for hours in motor homes, lawn chairs, on top of their cars, whatever, waiting for the chance to see the end of the event. It is a great pageant. But the climbing is not over. There are rollers that seem like mountains on the last section of the road to Turtle Rock Park and you can see the agony in the faces and Soon the ride is over and all are relieved but exhilarated at their accomplishment. The riders are served a free after -ride meal and guests can buy their dinner for a small fee. There isn't any wine available at the park, but there is lots of beer, and after a hard ride it tastes great! A band is playing as the riders wind down and discuss the day's adventure and look for things they can do better next year; glad its over, but wishing it wouldn't end.There are five possibilities for the ride from completing one pass to all five. Below is information for each option:
Of the close to 3000 riders who start the ride, surprisingly over half finish all five passes; some as young as ten and some over seventy. If you are one of them, CONGRATULATIONS!
