Compare Wines from the Regions of California

Looking for a great wine to go with dinner or something to take to a dinner party? Good news - we will be comparing wines from the different wine regions of California with each release of our magazine. We will be picking wines that represent the varietals most commonly found in California as well as a few that are on the rise from wineries that you may not have even heard about. Our goal is to help you, the reader, learn a little about the wine regions of California and some of the good wines to look for that are reasonably priced.
How We Structure Our Tastings
  • These are blind tasting with a panel consisting of wine professionals and people with no formal wine training but with a wide tasting experience.
  • The panel will evaluate the nose, palate, apparent acid and tannin levels,
the complexity and finish, and finally the overall impression of the wines.
  • The panel will generally know what regions are represented but not which wine is from which.  The last trick will be to see if the panel can tell which region of California the wines came from and why that might be true.
  • We will occasionally throw in a European wine to spice things up a little and see if that Old World/New World difference is really apparent in these wines.
  • We will try to keep the wines similar in quality and price whenever possible, to keep the comparisons as fair as possible, however, these will always be wines that we feel comfortable recommending to the general wine enthusiast.
