Petite Sirah TastingPetite Sirah Tasting

This was a really fun tasting of four California Petite Sirahs. We found all four to be very different in style and flavor, but all had long lingering finishes and great fruit. Most of the wines had some pretty significant tannin levels that could use some aeration or a little more bottle time to develop their full potential. The wine we found most gracious for drinking right away was the Solune Winery version. It was absolute velvet on the palate, but the other 3 wines were excellent as well needing maybe a year or more in the bottle to finish developing, as is common for good Petite Sirahs.

We followed the original format we had designed in our first tasting, giving the tasters ten minutes to do their own evaluations and write down their thoughts and findings. Next followed fifteen minutes to discuss the results as a group. The following grid is the composite results of the input of all of the tasters. Although some of these wines may be hard to find, this should serve as an example of the differences in Petite Sirah around these regions and what style the individual wineries produce. Click Here!
